I personally prefer Prophecies. You can get it for less money right now, it is not unusual to see it marked down 20% or more from its original $50 price. It is more of a game than Factions. There is much more territory and content than Factions and it is paced differently. The only thing you will find is that fewer people are playing it. Certain portions of the game are very quiet and it is a bit tougher to find groups, especially in the jungle area of the game.
I have both games and spend most of my time in Prophecies. |

I would also recommend Prophecies, especially to a first time GW player. Factions is great, but you would appreciate it more once you play and get used to Prophecies. Factions will just basically throw you out in the GW world at an extremely fast rate. Prophecies takes it time and lets you get used to the game mechanics.
Right now, I do have both campaigns. My favorite is Factions, but that is because I have played Prophecies for about 1 year. |

Prophecies is better for content, skills, and learning. Get in a good guild to help out.
If you like it then you can always add Factions to it later. |

Again I'd recommend Prophecies first, but I'd also like to say make sure you take your time playing through Prophecies, especially on your first one or two characters. If you do this, rather than rushing through to the end of the game, the game will be much more enjoyable and much more memorable down the line.

if you like Prophecies you might be much better off skipping Factions and going straight to Nightfall. i did not get much out of Factions myself and still spend most of my time in Prophecies |

yep listen to everyone here and get prophecies. I mean it's the first game, if your gonna watch lord of the rings do you start with the second one?
Other than that obvious reason prophecies just leaves a better lasting impression on you than factions. Eventually your gonna want them both for all the skills. For example if your starting a necromancer in prophecies and want to raise an army of minions, it is possible of course but there's a skill you can only get in factions that allows you to raise a very powerful golem as well another skill that summons vampire minions that steal health for you. It's a pretty big advantage over the guy who only has prophecies. So you'll be much better off having both games but definately start with prophecies. |

Yes, Prophecies is the right one to start with. Also, I have to agree with Loviatar, skip Factions and go straight to Nightfall.

Get prophecies to start off with. It is better for learning how to play. Then if you like it, I would recomend you get factions, and nightfall. Factions is way more than worth its price (and about 10 times better than prophecies if you ask me) and it seems like nightfall will be worth it too.

just a note i think its impossible to play factions without first dling and creating ACOUNT on prophecies also a note is thta in prophecies ull find ur old school players and those are the cool non scammer types though as u progress ull see more and more scammers (but ther r some scammers that r waiting for u with ur nice fresh delicate new meat in the begginning) muhahahahahahahahaha so be careful

You don't need to buy prophecies to play factions. If you don't have the facts, then don't post. It's hard enough being new to the game without getting false info.

Prophecies because it goes at a slower pace so you'll understand it better. Also, the game is sort of "bigger" and and easier, as well as cheaper now. However, there might not be that many people playing it still.
